Santa Fe: The Road to Zero Waste
Our natural resources are in short supply, and the current recycling and waste management method in the US is not sustainable. In episode two of a four-part documentary series from Amazon Web Services (AWS), we’ll highlight how smarter, more efficient city services can lead to a more sustainable future. See how Rubicon and the city of Santa Fe are using machine learning and other innovative solutions to transform municipal offerings and services essential in building a better environment for future generations.

CLIMATE NEXT: London: Driving Towards Cheaper, Cleaner Power
Fossil fuels have powered transportation and industry since the Industrial Revolution. To combat climate change, the pursuit of cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable forms of energy has become essential. In episode three of the four-part AWS documentary series Climate Next, the London-based energy tech pioneer Octopus Energy uses smart grid technology to support an all-renewable system generated by solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage, supplying families with the necessary data and tools to take control of their energy usage, save money, and revolutionize how the world is powered.

CLIMATE NEXT: The Essential Mangrove
Absorption of carbon dioxide, preservation of biodiversity, the reversal of coastal erosion, and the filtering of pollutants play a critical role in creating a sustainable future. In episode one of a four-part documentary series from AWS, we explore how mangroves play an essential role in protecting African communities from the impacts of climate change. Follow student-led YouthMappers and Digital Earth Africa in the quest to help communities gain fast access to decision-ready satellite data to prioritize restoration efforts of Mangroves along African coastlines.

LOS ANGELES: Plant a tree, Grow a Community
Nature-based climate solutions like tree planting can help mitigate climate change through air pollution reduction and carbon sequestration, but tree cover is often unequally distributed in many cities. Disadvantaged and low-income communities have 15.2% less tree cover and are 1.5 °C hotter than high-income areas. The Nature Conservancy is helping the City of Los Angeles achieve its goal by using data and AWS infrastructure to support Esri StoryMaps to increase tree cover in underserved communities.
